A Cinderella Story

It is a twist off the classic Cinderella tale. In this modern version, Sam (Hilary Duff) is a cute but geeky high-school student who is knocked off her feet by her father's untimely death, which leaves his diner and Samantha's well-being in the care of Fiona (Jennifer Coolidge), Sam's thoroughly wicked stepmother. After that dreadful day, she has been forced to live with her stepmother and step sisters who make her run around doing chores and work full time at a diner. Not one to take on such menial tasks as dishwashing and mopping floors, Fiona exploits Sam's dependence as a method of hoisting any dirty work off her own shoulders. The only thing that keeps Sam going is the dream to eventually be accepted into Princeton University.
School is hardly a break for Samantha, particularly when Shelby (Julie Gonzalo) is around; spoiled, wealthy, and popular, Shelby treats Samantha nearly as badly as Fiona does. And school most popular jock Austin Aimes (Chad Michael Murray). Samantha's life is irrevocably changed, however, by two events: a makeover of epic proportions and a sudden electronic correspondence with a mysterious young man. Due to a misplaced cell phone and a series of fateful coincidences, Samantha and her Prince Charming develop a romance through text messages and e-mails, and ultimately promise to meet face-to-face at the biggest school dance of the year. But there's something bothering Sam's mind, she is worried that this boy won’t accept her and her “diner girl” image.

At the dance, Sam dresses up as “Cinderella” and coincidentally, her “prince” shows up as “Prince Charming”. Sam recognizes the boy as the school’s most popular jock, Austin Aimes. Austin doesn’t recognize Sam behind her mask, and tries to uncover who she is. But, under orders she has to dash at midnight back to reality and to her stepmother.
The next day at school Austin is still searching for his Cinderella but Sam is afraid that Austin won't accept her for who she is so she stayed away from him.

Sam’s wicked stepsisters try to embarrass her at a pep rally, revealing Cinderella’s identity to the whole school. Sam decides to hide herself from the world. The crew at the diner try to comfort Sam and explain to her that no one can control her life. So Sam decides to move out from her stepmother’s house and live her own life. With this sudden burst of independence, Sam summons up the courage to confront Austin and tell him that she isn’t afraid to be herself anymore but she cant wait around for him.

At the big game, Austin has a lot to lose. But in the last few minutes of the game, he throws it all away so that he can be with Sam
.

In the end the two go to Princeton together and “live happily ever after”

THE END
